Lamb of God, Machine Head, Anthrax + More To Set Sail for 2012 Mayhem Fest Cruise

It has just been confirmed that Lamb of God, Machine Head and Anthrax, along with members of Korn and Slipknot, will bring metal to the high seas on the maiden voyage of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest Cruise.

According to Metal Insider, Mayhem Fest founder Kevin Lyman has confirmed that a nautical installment of the popular metal festival is set for this December. “We are just excited to get to put this together,” says Lyman. “It has been a fun process … and really allows us to expand the Mayhem brand and good times.

Lamb of God, Machine Head, Anthrax and Suicide Silence will perform on the Mayhem Fest cruise, with more acts from the record labels Metal Blade, Sumerian, Roadrunner and Century Media to be added later. Korn singer Jonathan Davis will put on his J Devil alter ego to DJ with Slipknot’s Sid Wilson (A.K.A. DJ Star Scream), while ‘Knot drummer Shawn “Clown” Crahan will host a film festival in conjunction with horror magazine ‘Fangoria.’

Since a pair of Slipknot members are already in tow, it’s being speculated that the dry-land Mayhem Fest headliners may join the cruise lineup as well. Singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root are currently recording a new album with Stone Sour, which is targeted for a fall release date — making a full Slipknot appearance less likely, but not impossible.

Up my alley! This is somewhat similar to the original 2008 line up. Except that Anthrax is involved.  I would love to do this. If Mastodon was there....it would be even more awesome!

Most of us haven’t bought into the whole 2012 apocalypse thing, but with the amount of metal festivals that are being held on cruise ships this winter, we’re starting to think that the metal gods know something we don’t.

Either way, the organizers of Mayhem Fest have confirmed that a metal cruise with bands such as Lamb of God, Machine Head, Anthrax and many others is will set sail from Dec. 7-10. The four days of insanity will begin in Miami, Fla., on Dec. 7, and travel all the way to the Bahamas before heading back to Miami on Dec. 10.

Not only will the aforementioned acts be joined by Hatebreed, Suicide Silence, Gojira, Periphery and many more as they bring the metal onto the high seas, but there will also be full DJ sets from JDevil (Jonathan Davis of Korn) and DJ Starscream (Sid Wilson of Slipknot). Speaking of Slipknot, Shawn “Clown” Crahan will be curating an art exhibit on board the cruise.

Other festivities include a horror film exhibit from Fangoria, comedians, music industry panels, a casino, a burlesque show and meet-and-greets with signings and photo-ops throughout the ship. The cruise will be hosted by metal personality Jose Mangin.

Tickets for this floating batch of awesomeness are set to go on sale Thursday, May 3, at noon EST, with packages starting at $699. Check out the official Mayhem Cruise website here for details.

Coming off one of the most successful summers to date with the Mayhem Festival, there was a lot of anticipation for what the inaugural Mayhem Festival Cruise would bring this December.

Unfortunately, however, the voyage has been canceled before things got out of dock. The event was set to leave the Port of Miami on Dec. 7, with the primary stop being in the Bahamas before returning to mainland on Dec. 10.

As for the talent, organizers had lined up Lamb of God, Machine Head, Anthrax, Hatebreed, Suicide Silence, and Kingdom of Sorrow, with each band receiving 90-minute sets, while Gojira, Periphery, Born of Osiris, Battlecross, Otherwise, Girl on Fire, Anti Mortem, and Gypsyhawk were some of the other talent set to play. Plus, JDevil (aka Korn’s Jonathan Davis) and DJ Starscream (aka Slipknot’s Sid Wilson) were on board to play full DJ sets.

Mayhem Festival Cruise organizers issued a statement on the official website about the cancellation, which read:
 “

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we have been forced to cancel the Mayhem Festival Cruise. If you purchased a cruise package, you will be automatically refunded to the credit card you used to purchase. If you used a prepaid card or gift card to purchase the cruise, please contact Rose Tours for your refund (215-663-8800). If you used a credit or debit card, you will see the credit within the next 2 to 3 weeks. We are also offering anyone who purchased a cruise ticket a lifetime complimentary pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Summer Tour.

You will still receive your cruise refund in addition to the lifetime pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Tour. This pass is valid on any tour date beginning in 2013. Details on getting these lifetime passes will be announced shortly.

We apologize for the cancellation.
