would installing humbuckers as opposed to single coils on a strat sound crappy?

coz the single coil 'hum' noise is something that has been annoying me for a while.

that, and I dig the sound humbuckers make.

They make strats standard with humbuckers.

They sound like humbuckers.

Compare it to a Les Paul. A Les Paul is substantially heavier than a strat and thus has a different sound. Different size, shape, weight and bridge make for a different sound.

This guy doing a demo with a HSS Strat. That means it has a humbucker and 2 single coil pickups: HSS = humbucker, single, single.

Read what I said again. There is no fitting or installation. They come standard.

what kinda strat do you have?  you;d probably have to get a new pickguard if all you have is single coils now

and i recommend the seymour duncan JB.

If you don't have a guitar routed for humbuckers, you'll have to have that cavity drilled out to fit the humbucker(s). That'll cost a fair amount, will DESTROY the resale value of your guitar and will significantly alter the sound of it.

Alternatives: A new strat that comes standard with the humbucker OR One of these. It's a humbucker designed to fit in a single coil slot. Very cool sound.

Basically, you can't fit a full size traditional humbucker in a strat. You'll have to have it drilled out, which as I said, changes it significantly. Depending on how attached you are to it, I'd either A) sell it in favour of one with humbuckers, B) use the single coil-SIZED humbucker or C) keep saving until you can buy another guitar.
